Wrinkle Treatment for Crows Feet

The inevitable process of aging brings about adverse effects on your skin. Crow’s feet, otherwise known as character lines or laugh lines, are wrinkles that start forming on your eyes’ outside corners. They can start showing up in your mid-20s. If you take care of your skin, these lines may not appear until later in life. Either way, crow’s feet are unavoidable because, as we age, our bodies lose their natural elasticity. One of the main reasons for this is our body’s elastin and collagen production diminishes. The good news is that you combat the aging of your skin. Here’s how:

  • Avoid sunlight and smoking. For starters, protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays using a broad spectrum sunscreen of 30 SPF or greater. Unprotected exposure to harmful UV rays is one of the most common ways for the skin to lose elastic and collagen, and ultimately, its ability to bounce back. If you are a smoker, you are putting your skin at double jeopardy, as smoking accelerates the biochemical processes that cause your skin to age faster.

  • Try an anti-wrinkle cream. There are some over-the-counter creams that can diminish the appearance of crow’s feet, but will likely prevent wrinkles or restore skin elasticity. Use creams with alpha hydroxyl acids, retinoids and copper peptides. If non-prescription pills do not help, a dermatologist can suggest something with a higher concentration of active ingredients. Most wrinkle creams might be expensive, but they are generally cheaper than cosmetic surgery and other procedures like Botox.

  • Consider getting Botox. Crow’s feet become most pronounced when you work the muscle around your eyes, like squinting, smiling or laughing. Botox chemically relaxes those muscles so they do not contract. Botox for crows feet is now FDA approved and generally safe provided you receive injections from a certified doctor. This treatment is quick but may take up to a week for you see results. Botox injections can last anywhere between three and six months.

  • Go with natural treatments. There are so many natural treatments for crow’s feet, like home remedies that contain vitamin E. One example is ingesting flaxseed which contains vitamin E, helpful fatty acides and has other extra health benefits. You can also poke a small hole in a vitamin E tablet are apply the contents to the area surrounding your eyes. Egg white face masks are also popular; just apply it to your whole face and let it dry thoroughly before washing it off. This will help tighten your skin and reduce the appearance of crow’s feet.

  • Eat the right kind of foods. An often overlooked eye wrinkle treatment is a nutritious diet rich in phytonutrients. Foods rich in antioxidants can play a role in combating free radicals. Also, drinking plenty of water every day helps ensure your body’s moisture levels are adequate. Keeping your weight under control also offers big benefits. When you gain weight, you gain it in your face, stretching out the skin. Constant fluctuations can continually stretch the skin, so it is more likely to wrinkle.

While you are likely to notice crow’s feet at some point in your life, do not fret just yet. Other challenges like treating under eye wrinkles and age spots would benefits from many of the suggestions above.
